Unwind at the hotel as the evening descends softly over the city.
Early in the morning, after a nourishing breakfast, set off to visit the magnificent Thiksey Gompa, perched serenely on a hilltop north of the shimmering Indus River. This ancient monastery, built in 1430 AD, boasts intricate architecture and a peaceful ambience. Marvel at the stunning gold-plated statue of Maitreya Buddha, its serene expression radiating tranquillity. Explore the Indus Valley Monastery and ascend to its rooftop for sweeping panoramas of the Indus Valley, where distant monasteries of Stanka, Matho, and Shey dot the landscape. Return to Leh city, then journey onward after lunch to the stately Stok Palace, constructed by a former Ladakhi ruler. Discover the fascinating museum that houses royal artefacts, weaponry, and glimpses of Ladakhi history and culture. As dusk settles, reflect on your day in the hotel’s gentle comfort.
The next day, set out for Shey Palace, located just 15 km from Leh, once the summer retreat of the King of Ladakh. Built in 1665, this palace sits majestically atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the valley below—once the heart of ancient Ladakh. Within Shey monastery, behold the largest golden Buddha statue in the region, gleaming in the soft morning light. Gaze across the horizon to spot the hallowed Hemis Gompa, approximately 50 km from Leh, standing on the west bank of the Indus River near Karu. As the largest and wealthiest monastery in Leh, Hemis comes alive during its vibrant festival, where sacred mask dances captivate visitors. Retreat to your hotel and relish a peaceful evening after a day of cultural immersion.
Today, prepare for an unforgettable drive along winding mountain roads to the breathtaking Khardung La, known as the world’s highest motorable road. After breakfast, set out from Leh, feeling the brisk wind and marvelling at the dramatic valleys and twisting roads as you ascend toward the clouds. At Khardung La Pass, take in panoramic vistas, inhale the pure mountain air, and experience the exhilarating feeling of being atop the world. Return to your hotel for a well-deserved lunch and rest, then spend the afternoon discovering Leh’s highlights, such as the serene Shanti Stupa, the historic Namgyal Tsemo Monastery, the grand Leh Palace, and the vibrant Tibetan Market. As night falls, rest in comfort at your hotel.
